Kenting

Kenting is the beach area on the south of Taiwan. Everybody comes here to enjoy a nicer weather during the whole year.

Kenting es la zona de playas del sur de Taiwan. Todo el mundo viene aca para disfrutar de un mejor clima durante todo el anio.

Unfortunately the beaches have a lot of rocks, but I guess you get used to it. I wanted to get wet, and so I jumped into.

Desafortunadamente las payas estan llenas de rocas, pero igual y uno se acostumbra. Y la verdad que queria nadar un rato asi que no me importo y me meti.

They call it the "Boat Stone" or "Floating Stone", not sure, they didn't know 100% percent, lol, but it's impresive.

La llaman la "Roca Barco" o la "Roca Flotante". Me parece super impresionante.


I took this picture of another beach from a facility on the road. It looks better than the one we went but it doesn't have any access. Sad.

Esta foto de otra playa la tome desde un cafe en el camino. Se ve mucho mejor que la playa a la que fuimos, pero el parecer no tiene acceso. Que lastima.


Then, we went to a different area, near the southest point in Taiwan (we couldn't see it, it was late to go there).

Despues nos fuimos para otra zona cerca del lugar mas al sur de Taiwan (al que no pudimos entrar porque ya era tarde).

This area is full of clifts, and the vegetation is different. You can see the ocean from here, but you cannot go there.

Esta zona esta llena de acantilados, y su vegetacion es diferente. Se puede ver el oceano desde aca, pero no se puede bajar.


Before dinner we looked for parking, and what better place than the parking lot from a hotel closed by the night market.

Antes de ir a cenar buscamos donde parquear, y no pudimos encontrar un mejor lugar que en el parqueadero de un hotel cerca al mercado nocturno.

The hotel is beautiful. The architecture is copied from the old houses in Tainan. I don't remember the name of the hotel, but if I ever come back here I want to stay in this hotel.

El hotel es precioso. La arquitectura es una copia de las casas viejas de Tainan. No me acuerdo del nombre del hotel pero si alguna vez regreso aca me gustaria quedarme en este hotel.

Taitung - Sunday

We had breakfast in McDonalds (haha), and then we went to the National Museum of Prehistory.

Despues de un desayuno en McDonalds nos fuimos para el Museo Nacional de Pre-historia.

The museum is more for children since they can interact with the objects, and they have tons of interesting activities. For this reason, they don't have originals, and everything is a reproduction.

El museo esta dirigido mas a los ninios, ya que es completamente interactivo y tiene un monton de actividades bien interesantes. Por esto mismo no presentan los objetos originales sino reproducciones.

Among the interesting things in the place there is this maze with water gates. Pretty cool.

Entre las cosas interesantes del museo vale destacar este laberinto con barreras de agua. Muy chevere.

Also, they have some dancing fountains. With music and water they display a nice show. It's difficult to capture the play with the camera, sorry.

Tambien tienen unas fuentes danzantes. Con musica y agua tienen un show muy bueno. Lastima que no se puede capturar la esencia del show en las fotos, ni modo.

The gardens have beatiful sculptures from local artists. This one here is carved out of one single tree. I liked them a lot.

Los jardines tienen esculturas hechas por artistas de la region. La de la foto fue tallada directamente en el tronco de un solo arbol. Me gustaron mucho.




It was time for lunch and we decided to go to Yuan-Sen, a restaurant with organic food. You pay an entrance fee (like a cover), plus the lunch at the main door. I didn't understand the entrance fee since you're going to eat anyway, or you're going to buy things in the store.

Ya cuando llego la hora del almuerzo decidimos ir a Yuan-Sen, que es un restaurante con productos organicos. Hay que pagar un cover a la entrada mas el valor del almuerzo. No entendi lo del cover si vamos a gastar en la comida y en otras cosas que se compren en la tienda.

The place is really nice. It has a garden where they culture the vegetables and plants for the food. And it has a pond full of fishes.

La verdad, el lugar esta bien bonito. Tienen una huerta para cultivar los vejetales y las plantas para la comida. Tambien tienen un laguito lleno de peces.

The store inside has different products made with organic materials. Here they sale sweets, cakes, tea, rice, toiletries, creams, etc., even handcrafts.

En la tienda venden productos a base de materiales organicos, como dulces, pastelitos, te, arroz, cosas para el banio, cremas, etc., y hasta venden artesanias.


After lunch we went to Chu Lu Ranch (we paid another entrance fee here). It's basically a turistic ranch with real and fake cows, and a lot of stores, cafes, and restaurants related to farming, and milk.

Despues del almuerzo nos fuimos para el Rancho Chu Lu, que es un rancho turistico con vacas de verdad y de mentiras (jaja) y restaurantes, cafe y bastantes tiendas con productos derivados de la leche y cosas de rancho (tambien pagamos cover aca).

What I really enjoyed in this place was the nature. It has beautiful trees, and a lot of plants.

Lo que mas me gusto del lugar fue la naturaleza. Tienen unas plantas y unos arboles muy bonitos.

Taitung - Saturday

Finally I got the chance to know the east side of Taiwang, well, at least something, only Taitung City and surroundings.

Finalmente tuve la oportunidad de conocer el lado oriental de Taiwan, bueno, por lo menos la ciudad de Taitung y sus alrededores.

Off course, we needed to stop to eat something, and what is best than pork? lol.

Pero por supuesto que teniamos que parar a comer algo en el camino, y que mejor que puerco? Jaja.


We hadn't booked a hotel, so we spent sometime looking for something not expensive but good.

No habiamos reservado hotel, asi que perdimos algo de tiempo mientras encontrabamos algo bueno, bonito y barato.

And gladly we found a bed & breakfast shaped like an UFO, pretty cool. 4 big rooms in the first floor, plus kitchen, and a big living area, and 3 rooms on the second floor.

Y afortunadamente encontramos uno bastante llamativo, con forma de ovni. 4 habitaciones grandes en el primer piso, mas una cocina y un area social bastante amplia. Ademas tenia 3 habitaciones en el segundo piso.













The pictures show the front of the house, the living area in the first floor, and my bedroom and bathroom on the second floor.

Las fotos muestran el frente de la casa, el area social en el primer piso y mi habitacion y banio en el segundo piso.

After getting settled we went to Taitung Forest Park. A big area with a lot of gardens, creeks, lakes, etc.

Luego de habernos acomodado nos fuimos para el Parque Bosque de Taitung, que tiene bastantes jardines, con lagos y riachuelos.




I was so happy when we found this "tunnel" 'cause it was so hot and we walked for hours.

Me puse tan feliz cuando pasamos por este "tunel". Ya teniamos rato de ir caminando bajo el sol, y la verdad que estaba bastante caliente.

And something like a house on a tree without the house, or a tree inside a deck, lol. It was fun.

Y aqui hay una casa en el arbol, pero sin la casa, o mas bien un arbol en medio de unas escaleras.

And a small lake that reminded me the paintings from Monet. The place was so crowded that it took me long time to take the picture.

Y un laguito que me recordo las pinturas de Monet. Estaba tan lleno el sitio que casi no puedo tomar la foto.

At the end of the afternoon we went to the beach. I waited so long for that moment, and I got dissapointed.

Al final de la tarde nos fuimos a la playa. Despues de esperar tanto, me quede completamente desilusionado.

Why bother, it's just rocks. You cannot even swim because it's dangerous. Maybe next time.

Ni para que nos molestabamos. No se puede nadar, esta lleno de rocas el lugar y es peligroso. La proxima vez sera.

Tainan County - 2nd Part

After driving for 20 minutes we arrived to a placed called the Chiang Family Village in Lu-Tao-Yang. Is like a small villa, but it belongs to a family, and it has very old houses.

Despues de manejar unos 20 minutos llegamos a un lugar llamado el Poblado de la Familia Chiang en Lu-Tao-Yang. Es una especia de valla que pertenece completamente a una familia, y tiene casa bien antiguas.

They followed a U pattern to build the village begining with 3 houses. The one in the middle is for the parents, the one on the right is for the first son, and the one on the left for the second son. When the family grows they add additional layers.

Se sigue un patron de construccion en U comenzando con 3 casas. La primera esta en el centro y es para los padres, la segunda esta a la derecha y es para el hijo mayor, y la tercera esta a la izquierda y es para el segundo hijo. Cuando la familia crece se aniade una U concentrica.

Then we went to Nansi, another township, and we entered in a very peculiar restaurant named the Fruits Family Farmer.

Arrancamos para Nansi, otra poblacion cercana, y fuimos a almorzar a un restaurante muy particular, que se llama el Granjero de la Familia de Frutas.

The restaurant is in the middle of a farm where they grow fruits, that they use to prepare the meals. Very delicious.

El restaurante hace parte de una finca de cultivo de frutas, las mismas que utilizan para la preparacion de las comidas. Muy rico todo.


Then, in another area, Dongshan, we went up to almost the top of a mountain to see a nice temple. I don't even remember the name of the temple. It's not that big, but it looks very impressive.

Luego, fuimos a Dongshan, casi a la cima de una montania para ver un templo. No me acuerdo el nombre. No esta tan grande, pero si es impresionante.


Down the mountain we went to a nice cute cafe. The place is very beautiful, and the view is magnificent.

Bajando la montania paramos en cafecito "cuquito". Muy lindo por cierto y con una vista magnifica.

Very expensive though, hahaha, and they gave me just the smallest cup they could find, but it was prepared by the owner, or BOSS, how they called owners here.

We stopped, I don't know exactly where, to eat duck necks and heads. Believe me, I've tried many things, but they looked a little gross. I only ate the necks, hahaha, kind of deep fried and then caramelized.

Paramos, no se ni en donde, a comer pescuezos y cabezas de pato. La verdad yo he probado muchas cosas, pero esto se veia medio aja, ya tu sabes. Solo comi unos pescuezos y le pare. Estan freidos y caramelizados, mmm.

At the end of the day we went to a lotus field. Even though it wasn't that late the flowers were already closed.

Al final del dia fuimos a un campo de lotos. Lastima que las flores ya se habian cerrado, aunque todavia habia luz natural.

Tainan County - 1st Part

The day of the Dragon Boat festival I went with my coworkers to visit different places in Tainan County.

For the first stop we went to Yujing to eat mango salad on ice, with mango juice, condensed milk, and ice cream. ...
La primera parada la hicimos en Yujing, en un restaurante para comer ensalada de mango, sobre una cama de hielo raspado, con jugo de mango, leche condensada y helado.

This is the condensed milk. I think the name is too funny. Another example of Lost in Translation.

After that salad we passed on front of a temple where they began the preparations for a procession. Here I am with a representation of one god.

Despues de la ensalada pasamos en frente de un templo en el que se estaban alistando para una procesion. Aqui estoy con una representacion de uno de sus dioses.

They say their gods cannot touch the ground, that's why turtles are so important, that way gods can step on them and move around.

Dicen que sus dioses no pueden tocar el suelo, por eso las turtugas son tan importantes, porque los dioses se pueden parar sobre ellas y asi moverse.

Dajia & Lukang City

On Sunday morning we went to small town in Taichung called Dajia. They wanted me to see the Xhenlan temple.

El Domingo por la maniana nos fuimos a un pueblito en Taichung llamado Dajia. Mis amigos querian mostrarme el templo Xhenlan.

It was a rainy day, but I was happy to be there learning more things about their culture.

From Dajia we went to Lukang city, in Changhua, another state. This city was an important sea port in the 18th and 19th centuries.

De Dajia nos dirigimos a la ciudad de Lukang, en el estado ed Changhua. Esta ciudad fue un puerto maritimo muy importante en los siglos 18 y 19.

It's one of the most well preserved antique cities in Taiwan. Most of the houses held shops and small temples.

Es de las ciudades antiguas de Taiwan mejor conservadas. La mayoria de las casas son tiendas y templos pequenios.





Before leaving we saw a procession. The people from the area were carrying statues of their gods, burning inciense, and playing music.

Taichung - West

After lunch I continued walking, and I went to Jing-Ming 1st Street, a nice shoping area with very good restaurants, and a street market.

Despues del almuerzo me fui para la calle 1era del Jing-Ming, que es un area comercial con muy buenos restaurantes y un mercadito en la calle.

The architecture in this area is very modern and interesting. I like how they mixied the trees with the design of this building.

La arquitectura del area es bastante moderna y muy intersante. Por ejemplo, para el disenio de este edificio utilizaron arboles en la fachada.

Then I went to Wuchuan Parkway, with nice sculptures, and upscaled shops.

Despues me fui para el Wuchuan Parkway, que tiene unas esculturas bien interesantes y almacenes de prestigio internacional.





On the way I found a new department stored called Park. I couldn't believe my eyes. The building has a garden hanging from the walls. How they did it? No idea, but it's super.

En el camino me encontre con una nueva tienda por departamentos llamada Parque. Es increible. Pusieron un jardin con plantas y flores "pegados" a las paredes. Como lo hicieron? Ni idea, pero me parecio fabuloso.

Close by there is One, the second tallest building in Taiwan. It's sad the weather didn't help, and the pictures are not that good.

Cerca de Parque esta One, el segundo edificio mas alto de Taiwan. Es una lastima que el clima no ayudo, y las fotos quedaron muy grises.
